The Complete Seasonal Storage Guide: How to Store Winter Clothes and Duvets Without Mould

5 Aug 2026Seasonal StorageOrganising Tips

Hong Kong's humid climate makes every change of season a high-risk time for mould, yellowing and insect damage. To get your winter clothes and duvets safely through the off-season, the steps before and after packing really matter.

Always Wash Before Storing

Even clothes that look clean carry sweat and skin oils that oxidise and turn yellow over time — and attract insects. Wash everything and dry it thoroughly before boxing; dry-clean down jackets and coats.

Different Materials, Different Methods

  • Cotton and denim: file-fold upright; vacuum bags are fine for saving space
  • Down: fold loosely — long-term vacuum compression damages the loft
  • Leather and silk: hang in breathable garment bags or lay flat on top; never crush under weight
  • Duvets: sun-dry thoroughly, pack in dust-proof bags and add desiccant

Moisture and Insect Protection Tips

Put one or two desiccant packs in each box. Keep mothball-type repellents away from direct contact with clothes — wrap them in breathable paper bags and place them in a corner of the box. Avoid wrapping clothes in newspaper; the ink transfers.

No Room at Home? Use a Managed Warehouse

Home space in Hong Kong is limited. Box up a whole season's unworn clothes and duvets and hand them to a door-to-door valet storage service, where they're kept in a ventilated, managed warehouse — far better than stuffing them under the bed or on top of the wardrobe.

Seasonal Timetable

We suggest storing winter clothes in March–April and summer items in October–November. Book a pickup online and sort the whole seasonal switch in one go — we'll deliver everything back when the season changes.
