Camping Gear Storage Guide: Keep Tents and Sleeping Bags in Top Shape
Camping and hiking have boomed in Hong Kong in recent years, but a full gear set can swallow an entire cupboard: tent, sleeping bags, camp table and chairs, stove... and poor storage can ruin them. Here are our gear storage tips.
Tents: never pack away damp
Make sure the tent is completely dry before storing, and clean mud and sand off the floor and guy lines. Packing a damp tent causes mould and hydrolyses the waterproof coating until it peels. For long-term storage, roll it loosely rather than folding it along the same creases.
Sleeping bags: avoid long-term compression
Compression sacks are for the trail only. For long-term storage, use a large breathable bag and store the sleeping bag loosely so down and synthetic fill keep their loft and warmth. Air-dry thoroughly before packing to prevent odours.
Stoves, tables and chairs
Clean grease and food residue off stoves, and always detach gas canisters and store them separately. Wipe down folding furniture and let it dry in the shade; a light coat of anti-rust oil protects metal parts.
Seasonal storage is the perfect fit
Camping gear mostly comes out in autumn and winter, sitting idle at home for half the year. Smaller items fit our door-to-door mini box; tents and full car-camping sets suit door-to-door mini storage. Book online and we collect from your door, then deliver everything back when camping season returns.
Pre-trip checklist
List the contents of each box before storing. Before your next trip, check the list and book retrieval — no more arriving at the campsite to find something missing.
